The Tiruchi Corporation has appealed to the residents to participate in a big way in the Swachh Survekshan 2018, the ranking of the cleanest cities in the country.

With citizens’ feedback being an important component which secures substantial points in the ranking system, the civic body is keen to encourage residents to participate in the survey and give their feedback. The objective of the survey is to encourage citizen participation and foster a spirit of healthy competition among towns and cities to improve their service delivery to citizens.

“We were ranked the third cleanest city while competing among 72 cities in 2016. In 2017 we bagged the sixth place among 434 cities across the country. This year, the competition has got tougher as we are competing with 4,041 cities,” Corporation Commissioner N. Ravichandran said.

The ranking system would be based on points secured by each city and has a total of 4,000 points.

Of this, 1,400 points had been earmarked for documentation by the civic body and 1,200 for the field assessment by the Union government. Citizen feedback has been given much importance with 1,400 points being earmarked under this head.

The survey for citizens involves about half-a-dozen queries such as whether the respondents were aware that the city was participating in the ranking; whether the city was cleaner than the previous year; whether they were using the litter bins; whether they were satisfied with the door-to-door segregation of solid waste, whether the number of urinals/toilets have increased leading to reduction in open defecation; and whether the public toilets were clean and accessible.

The respondents would have to give their opinion in four options, each having specified points.

With the city lagging behind in bagging good scores in the citizen feedback category the last time, the Corporation is keen that the lacunae was set right this time around.

All efforts were being made to persuade citizens to participate in the survey to give their opinion.

City residents can participate in the survey by dialling toll-free number 1969 or 1800-111-969 or by logging on towww.swachhsurvekshan
